Pastor Michael Black, Bio
Pastor Michael Black was raised between Buckeye, Arizona, where he spent his high school years living on the family ranch and in the state of Washington, where he spent much of his professional and pastoral career.
He became a Christian in 1986, but by his own admission, was a slow study, not beginning to faithfully attend church until 2002, but when he did, Michael quickly become active in the church and began serving in various ministry and leadership positions which ultimately led to his calling to be a Pastor in 2015.
Pastor Mike became a pulpit supply pastor shortly after his calling, filling the pulpit at various churches in the Pacific Northwest. He became a permanent Bi-Vocational Pastor in 2020 at a small church in Quincy, Washington; a position he held until he was called to join us at Morningside Yuma in October of 2023.
He has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Washington, and a Master of Divinity in Christian Leadership from Andersonville Theological Seminary. His primary method of preaching is through Biblical Exposition and has a preaching style that he describes as “Joyful Accountability”. Pastor Mike sees himself more as a Biblical teacher than a preacher who focuses on responding to the gift of Salvation that we have been given.
His life verse is James 2:17, which states, “Faith, when unaccompanied by works, is dead by itself”. In other words, we do good works, BECAUSE we are saved, not to BECOME saved. Pastor Mike believes very deeply that a heart that truly belongs to Jesus is transformed into a new identity and with this new identity comes a desire to serve Jesus, His creation (mankind), and His Mission (to lead the lost to Christ); this is the true nature of fulfilling the Royal Law (James 2:8).
Pastor Mike has been married since 2000 to his beautiful wife Amanda, who is a teacher here in Yuma.. Together, they have two adult children; Brandon and Madison, who both attend college in the Phoenix area.
